Jailbreak firmware 3.1.3

Spirit

What’s Spirit?
  • Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on the latest firmwares.
  • Spirit is not a carrier unlock.
  • If you currently are using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore to use Spirit. Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version.)
    • (If you mistakenly ran Spirit despite using a tethered jailbreak, try these instructions.)
Requirements
  • Any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.
  • An activated device: one not stuck on the Connect to iTunes or Emergency Call screen.
  • Any version of iTunes 9 (including 9.1.1).
  • Syncing with iTunes before trying this is highly recommended.

Note: On iPad, all this is still sort of beta. Some packages in Cydia, not designed for iPad, might screw up your system and require you to restore. Be careful. (And no, Cydia’s appearance is not final.)

Other Stuff
  • If you liked this jailbreak, I greatly appreciate donations:
  • Update (May 3): I’ve updated the jailbreak tool. It no longer deletes photos (sorry!) and should resolve the issue with error code c0000005. (If you still get that error with the new version, try setting compatibility mode to Windows 95.)
  • Legal information.
  • Source code will be available after the inevitable update.
  • For troubleshooting purposes, here is a little program to read the syslog (which the spirit installer writes a bunch of stuff to). If you don’t know what this means, don’t bother.
  • Thanks to BigBoss, chpwn, chronic, MuscleNerd, OPK, planetbeing, pod2g, posixninja, saurik, westbaer, and anyone else whose name I have forgotten, for various contributions.
  • Plus, special thanks to everyone who donated to me in the past.

The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction on T-Mobile, here is a FIX for that!

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

So after updating my iPhone 3G to firmware 3.1.2, jailbreaking and unlocking it so I could use it with T-Mobile I can no longer receive picture messages. This is the error I get “The media content was not included due to a picture resolution or message size restriction”. I have tried multiple settings I found while searching google.com and have not found a cure. This is annoying as hell so I will not rest until I find the cure and post it here.

Woooooord UP! I found a fix that works!

1. Open Cydia/Icy and make sure http://www.sinfuliphonerepo.com is added to your sources
2. Search for “Enable MMS for 2G & 3.1.2 Firmware” and install it.
3. Reboot your iPhone
4. Have someone send you a pic message and enjoy!
5.There is more than one way to fix this issue but this was the only one that worked for me.

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

As you may already know the iPhone 3.1.2 jailbreak and unlock are fully functional and running strong thanks to geohot’s amazingly simple blackra1n software available as a free download at http://blackra1n.com.

The steps are simple.

1. Download blackra1n for your MAC and save it to your desktop
2. Restore your iPhone 3G or 3GS via the latest iTunes 3.1.2
3. Close iTunes
4. run blackra1n
5. click make it rain
6. wait for iPhone to reboot
7. click the blackra1n icon on your iphone and select at least the bottom icon to unlock the phone for T-mobile
8. reboot 2 times
9. enjoy your jailbroken unlocked iPhone
